Life on Irish Bayou

Straight from the Southern hot bed of New Year's excitement,

THE DIXIE DIX

SEE - I TOLD you the picture of the Dixie Chix in the last posting was "the pretty ones"!!

And Now - the quiet life on The Bayou.

If you've got Google Earth - and if you don't, you oughta download it, 'cause it's amazing - I'm at

N30 7.9447
W89 52.0164

6 miles across Lake Pontchartrain to get to anything. I'm surrounded by water and Cajun watermen. With just a couple of exceptions, everyone living out here makes their living from the waters. Shrimpers, crabbers, fishermen.

VERY basic living and really, really hard work.

Here are some pictures of what I see on my daily two mile walk

Home, Sweet Home

Entering "Irish Bayou"

Some people haven't made it back yet

Some buildings survived, although this one is starting to lean a little - did I mention that these were NOT normal people??

SO, I'm FINALLY caught up - It's Wed, Jan 16th. It's been a typical LA winter day. HEAVY rain and winds for a few hours - like 4 inches in 10 hours. Now the blue sky is breaking through with lots of wind still blowing. It's the first time I've seen whitecaps on the bayou.

I'm trying to get up the energy to take my "morning walk" - and it's 3:00pm. Oh well, better late than never.

Blessings from the Bayou.
